Windows Phone 8.1

Shutdown by 1 January 2018: Juniper VPN / Pulse Secure / Junos Pulse / Network Connect
As of now new OpenVPN service for KIT (unfortunately there is no OpenVPN client for Windows Phone available at the moment):

To establish a VPN connection from your Windows Phone 8.1 use the free "Junos Pulse" app.

Short instructions:

  1. Download the "Junos Pulse VPN" app in the App Store
  2. Configurations:
    • Server name or IP address: https://vpn.kit.edu
    • Type: Junos Pulse VPN
    • User name/Password: Your KIT account (ab1234 or uxxxx)
    • "Connect automatically": "Off"
    • "Server certificate validation": "On"
    • Certificate: Deutsche Telekom Root CA 2

Detailed instructions:

Install the “Junos Pulse VPN” app (for Windows Phone) in the Windows Phone Store [figure 1], then open it. In the app list tap on “settings” and then on “VPN” [figure 2]. Tap the “+” icon to create a new connection.

In this screen enter [figure 3 and figure 4]:

  1. Server name or IP address: https://vpn.kit.edu
  2. Type: Junos Pulse VPN
  3. User name/Password: Your KIT account (ab1234 or uxxxx)
  4. "Connect automatically": "Off"
  5. "Server certificate validation": "On" [figure 4] (Remark: If there is no "Server certificate validation", click on “cancel” and start with the configuration again)
  6. Certificate: Deutsche Telekom Root CA 2 [figure 5]

After saving the connection, start the VPN by tapping on the connection in your VPN list. If a VPN connection is established, a little lock icon appears next to the WLAN icon [figure 6].
