Expanding ADSM – Bring Other Distributed Backup Products Into The ADSM Domain

Overview:

STARvault from Sentryl Software working with ADSM provides the abilty to capture backup data from various backup products and store it in an ADSM server. STARvault, acting as virtual tape, captures data from ARCserve, Backup Exec, Omniback, Legato, Sytos , various TAR commands and even ADSM, and stores the data into a centralized ADSM server. The ‘end user’ and backup administrators operate normally and no retraining is required. Think of it, just drop STARvault into your ADSM system, connect up to any of the supported products and bring all that data into one place for safekeeping.

How STARvault Works With ADSM:

STARvault plugs into various backup products as a tape device driver. The data that would be normally written to tape is redirected to a STARvault ‘Vault’ by the virtual tape ‘Agent’. The ‘Vault’ program stores the data in an ADSM server using the ADSM industry standard API. On restore operations the opposite data flow occurs.

STARvault Products:

STARvault for AIX uses ADSM for AIX – 10/98

STARvault for HP/UX uses ADSM for HP/UX – 11/98

STARvault for Solaris uses ADSM for Solaris – 1/99

STARvault for NT uses ADSM for NT – 12/98

There is also a STARvault for OS/390 available now that uses standard OS/390 tape support for ‘vaulting’ the data.

All of the STARvault ‘Agents’ work with each STARvault ‘Vault’.

Summary:

No retraining required

Can work in conjunction with various bus extenders and channel converters

Sentryl Software resells ADSM and can provide ADSM for customers that don’t have it or wish to expand their configuration.
