Aerosol formation in gas-liquid contact devices

Due to spontaneous phase transition in super-saturated gas-vapor mixtures aerosol formation may occur in industrial processes. In most cases this aerosol is unwanted, as it can enhance the pollutant emission or carry substances to subsequent process stages. On the other hand purposefully caused condensation can be used to develop new energy efficient processes.

The simulation tool AerCoDe is developed together with the Institute of Thermodynamics and Refrigeration and allows to calculate contact devices (e.g. packed columns), including the droplet growth and aerosol composition.
