1st Workshop on Research Software Engineering at KIT (RSE@KIT)

Dienstag, 09. Mai 2023, 13:00-17:00
Karlsruher Institut für Technologie
Campus Süd
Senatssaal (Geb. 11.30)

The goal of this workshop is to bring together stakeholders from KIT that are developing research software and are applying RSE techniques and tools in their research process in order to gather wishes and best practices as well as to connect people. There is also the chance to present your RSE related work in short lightning talks.

Background

Research software has become a key component of scientific work and rarely any research is conducted nowadays that does not rely on software. Research software must meet the same rigorous requirements that researchers expect of their data, samples, devices and infrastructures. Software - as every other infrastructure - needs to be continuously developed, maintained and supported, sometimes over decades. The UK Software Sustainability Institute simply states "Better Software, Better Research".

KIT has recognized the importance of research software in its Digitalization Strategy. A KIT-internal project entitled "Research Software" was started in order to facilitate Research Softwar Engineering (RSE) and the development of research software as an essential task in the digitized research process.
