Project course: Solving real-world problems with mathematics and artificial intelligence

Target group: Girls interested in mathematics or computer science from Year 10 onwards

Mathematics plays a central role in numerous applications in our everyday lives. Whether it's Siri and Alexa processing speech, Netflix and Spotify making recommendations for films and music, or medical diagnostics automatically detecting diseased tissue on CT scans. Many of these applications involve vast amounts of data from which information is extracted and used with the help of mathematics and computers.

Methods from the fields of artificial intelligence (AI) and data science are often used for this purpose. In this project course, you will learn that these methods are often based on concepts that are sometimes even taught in school mathematics.

With the support of your course instructors, you will develop mathematical models for various real-world problems (including film recommendation systems and language processing applications).

... an insight into artificial intelligence and data science

You will receive an introduction to the basics and areas of application of AI and data science and explore the importance of mathematics in these fields. We will also discuss important ethical issues surrounding AI applications.

...study and career orientation!

At a networking event, you will have the opportunity to talk to young women who work in STEM or data science professions. You will also receive first-hand information about studying at KIT and work through problem-solving steps from data science professions.
