Autodesk Educational Licensing Model – 2025 Update
Autodesk has introduced significant changes to its educational licensing model in 2025, affecting students, educators, researchers, and academic institutions. As confirmed by Autodesk Support on July 31, 2025, the company is transitioning entirely to a named-user licensing system, phasing out both network server licenses and multi-seat standalone (MSSA) license keys. Under this new model, each user must create an Autodesk account, and a license will be assigned to their official institutional email address upon request.
The existing network and MSSA educational licenses will be discontinued on March 25, 2026. Institutions currently relying on these legacy models must migrate to the new named-user system to ensure uninterrupted access. For more information, please refer here.
Action Required
- For IT representatives managing Autodesk licenses at your institution, please provide a CSV file containing the first name, last name, and institutional email address of all Autodesk users at your institution and the Autodesk products required via email to scs-contact∂scc.kit.edu.
- For KIT members requesting access to Autodesk products, please send your first name, last name, and institutional email address along with the Autodesk products required via email to scs-contact∂scc.kit.edu.
Next Steps
- If you already have an official Autodesk account registered with your KIT credentials, you will receive an email with instructions to download the requested software.
- If you do not yet have an Autodesk account, you will receive an invitation email from Autodesk to set up and verify your profile. Once completed, you will then be able to download the software.
