Copilot - Frequent Questions (FAQ)

Can I use Microsoft Copilot directly in Office applications at KIT?
An extended licence is required to use Copilot in popular Office apps such as MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc. This licence is not available to KIT members. Furthermore, only Copilot Chat has been approved for data protection and can be used at KIT.
Copilot Chat is no longer displayed to me, and I am unable to use it. It used to work.
The terms of use for employees, guests and partners (GUP) for Copilot Chat were changed on 2 February 2026.
With the introduction of the KI-Toolbox at KIT, a central training course entitled „KI-Kompetenzmodul – Verstehen und Anwenden von generativer KI (DE/EN)“(*) was also created to support users of these new tools. Completion of this training course is a prerequisite for using the KI-Toolbox and, since 2 February 2026, also for Microsoft Copilot Chat.

Copilot Desktop App or M365 Copilot?
There are two desktop apps for Copilot.
The “Copilot” desktop app—the one without “M365” in the name—does not work.
The version provided to us is M365 Copilot. With this version, we can use the chat feature with our business cloud user account.
Thus, there are two ways to access it: M365 Copilot as a desktop app or via the website
