Reliable identity management is essential for secure access to digital services in research and higher education. Developed primarily at SCC, RegApp (Federated Login Services) is an open-source platform that connects institutional identities with a wide range of services. It serves more than 38,000 registered users from universities, the Helmholtz Association, and other research organizations, supporting technologies such as single sign-on (SSO) and two-factor authentication (2FA).
On October 6–7, 2026, the RegApp team organized its first workshop, bringing together representatives from universities and research institutions to exchange experiences, discuss current developments, and explore future directions. Participants included representatives from RWTH Aachen, Goethe University Frankfurt, the University of Cologne, Heidelberg University, and the University of Duisburg-Essen.
The workshop agenda featured updates on the project’s status and future plans, an overview and live demonstration of RegApp, and a presentation on the AARC Blueprint Architecture. Participants also shared use cases and best practices, discussed common challenges, and explored opportunities for collaboration across institutions.
A key focus was identifying future requirements to guide upcoming enhancements and compiling them into a shared list. The discussions provided valuable input for aligning RegApp’s roadmap with the needs of its user community.
The workshop was a great success, with positive feedback from participants and productive exchanges throughout the two days. It strengthened connections within the RegApp community and laid the foundation for future annual workshops, supporting continued collaboration and the platform’s ongoing development.
