To kick the meeting off, Johannes Steinhülb (INT) presented the research datamanagement software Kadi4MAT in a spotlight talk. He showed the evolution of Kadi4MAT over various projects and the corresponding issues and solutions they took. Afterward, 10 participants presented their software or ideas in short lightning talks. The talks were as varied as the backgrounds of the presenters. From issues with package maintenance, presenting new libraries or frameworks, and lab automation software to the intricacies of open-sourcing software critical to German weather forecasts, every topic offered interesting starting points for discussions. In the final presentation of the event, Jasmin Hörter (SCC) presented services related to RSE provided by KIT and Helmholtz. Some were already known by the audience, especially the KIT-hosted GitLab, while other services were newly discovered by some.
For the second half of the event, we switched to interactive discussions. Small groups discussed various topics. Among the topics discussed, the longest were community building, feedback on services, generative AI, and skill improvement. Shorter discussions focused on dependency management, maintainability, graphical user interfaces, and open source. The lively discussions provided many insights that can be explored further. Indeed, among the participants, it was highlighted to follow up in other workshops or discussion rounds. Anyone interested in keeping up-to-date with possible new events and activities is invited to join the mailing list RSE-Announcement.
We thank all the helpers and participants that helped realize this successful event.
