Chatbot - Terms of use
Note on AI-supported communication
This system is an AI-supported chatbot. You interact with an automated system that is based on machine learning methods. It processes your input to generate suitable text responses automatically.
Purpose of the chatbot
The chatbot provides support for general requests for information about the university's offers, services and content. It does not replace individual advice. It does not provide binding information. This system does not make any decisions with legal or comparable consequences. It provides support exclusively through preparatory information processing and is focused on narrowly defined tasks.
Non-permitted user input and content
It is not permitted to enter personal data about yourself or third parties into the system. In particular, the AI may not be fed with abusive, offensive and discriminatory or otherwise harmful and/or unlawful input (such as input of content that infringes third-party rights such as confidential information or third-party copyrighted content), nor may corresponding content generated with the AI be used for such purposes. Use of the AI for "high-risk purposes" is not permitted. High-risk purposes include in particular
- Biometric mass surveillance
- Social scoring by advertising behavior or personality traits
- Manipulative systems, e.g. disinformation through deep fakes or psychological influence
- Automated decision-making without human control in sensitive areas (e.g. personnel decisions)
- Use in safety-critical infrastructures without human supervision
- Autonomous weapon system with independent target selection
Dealing with the output/generated content of the AI
The generated content is not checked, e.g. for errors. Similarly, there is no check as to whether the input or the generated content violates or could violate the law and thus create liability risks. The output must always be checked by the user and must not be used without reflection. Users remain responsible for the content generated with the AI, especially when it is reused.
Technology
This chatbot system is operated and managed under the name and layout of KIT. It is based on an external technology, but has been adapted to the specific requirements. The system is based on the GPT-4.1 mini language model from OpenAI and was configured by the university for the specific application purpose with a customized system prompt, a RAG and other parameters. The content is generated dynamically by the model.
Location of data processing
Your entries are processed via servers in the Azure Cloud, hosted by Microsoft with server location in Germany. It is used without personal profiling. Your entries are not stored permanently and are not used for identification purposes.
Responsibility and contact
Operation is the responsibility of Prof. Dr. Achim Streit. For queries, information or training on the safe and competent use of AI systems, please contact: servicedesk ∂does-not-exist.scc kit edu
